Kailua is the best town on the island and is home to Kailua Beach -- consistently one of the top-ranked beaches in the world. Located on the Windward side of the mountain, the greenery and landscape is lush and gorgeous. Driving over the mountain pass from the airport into town is one of the most beautiful drives in the world -- similar to the Road to Hana in Maui. Kailua has very few rental properties and hotels, so it is free from the congestion of Honolulu, while still being very close to the main attractions on the island. There is a very modern shopping center with a Target, Whole Foods, boutique shops and restaurants. Popular visitor sites nearby include Lanikai Snorkeling (12 minutes), Pill Box Hike (11 minutes), Pali Lookout (20 minutes), Royal Hawaiian Golf Club (17 minutes), Pearl Harbor (30 minutes), Sea Life Park (20 minutes), Haunauma Bay (30 minutes), and the North Shore (50 minutes).
Kailua Beach offers 3 miles of fine, soft white sand along a crescent shaped bay bordered by clear turquoise waters that have a consistent year-round temperature of about 75 degrees F (25 C). The steady off shore trade winds, water temperature and protective reef make this bay a popular area for water sports including Kayaking, Stand-Up Paddling, Surfing, Boogie Boarding, Swimming and Kite Surfing.

After returning home I asked everyone to give me some feedback on the overall experience. First off, the property is just as advertised, it is a beautiful property, and easy access to the beach. Here is some takeaways from all of us. There was a bedroom in the open area just outside the inner two bedrooms, this area is referred to as the open bedroom area. It was notably hot, the AC was not functioning in this part of the house. I contacted the hosts, and they sent an AC repairman on our last day at the property. Several of our guests had reported a seeing a couple cockroaches around the house, however, a regularly scheduled exterminator arrived to spray. We were not concerned, just had to be diligent in keeping doors and outside areas closed. After connecting with everyone, we considered these issues to be minor. The check in process was simple and easy to follow. Everyone seemed to have a great time, and really enjoyed the property and the surrounding area. I have read other people having issues with the hot tub, however, we had no problems with the hot tub. The only real complaint I have is learning that shaved ice is a fancy snow-cone. A great family memory, and one we will not soon forget, had a wonderful time.

From the moment we opened the gate and saw the pool, to finding and picking our rooms , our arrival was seamless. Only issue ( which has been previously mentioned ) was the spa .We did need some help with the iPad to get it working & also needed maintenance to get the heating working.
Having said this it all happened and it was the only issue we had . Awesome place to stay and share quality time with our family . Could not rate this as a place for a family or big group of friends to stay more highly !

Pictures do not do this beautiful property justice!! There were a few minor hiccups with how many "rooms" there actually are but it all worked out and we were not there for the rooms. The gathering areas and pool was more than enough.

The property hosts need to make a lot of repairs before listing this as occupant-ready. The pool and spa heater didn’t work for 5 of the seven days we were there, there was a gas leak that wasn’t fixed until the end of our stay, the couch/futon was completely broken and unable to serve as a bed, one of two kitchen sinks and washer/dryers was out of service, a shower was broken, among other things. We had to accommodate a stream of repair people and inconveniences during our family reunion which made us very unhappy.
Also, some of the bedrooms aren’t private and are walkthrough spaces that didn’t accommodate the couples in our party. The downstairs king bedroom smells heavily of mold — no one in our party wanted to sleep there. Several of us ended up sleeping in the living room on the floor or couch.
AvantStay staff were friendly over the phone but not very effective in solving the problems. And after all the problems we had to deal with, they refunded us a measly amount that didn’t cover even one night of our stay.
We paid a premium for a luxury property and ended up extremely disappointed.

Location and access to beach fantastic. The layout of bedrooms worked well for us. First few days were frustrating because communication wasn’t good with management. It took a while to get the towels, sheets, instructions for turning things off and on. Also the barbecue was unusable. But they became more responsive and we had a good vacation. Special thanks to Tom, who helped us get a barbecue and appreciated our frustration.
