I loved the location of this vacation home. Updates from the photos as far as the kitchen is that the fridge is bigger and outside on the porch along with the induction cooktop. The grill was in great working condition. I really enjoyed cooking and eating outside on the porch. The view is spectacular. Jim was an amazing host and took the time to walk me around. I will be booking with Jim and Kim again.

Kim’s Cottage and Jim’s welcome were both awesome, two of us stayed for three nights and it was exactly as described and expected. The private patio was wonderful and it made for easy living. We did have some unwelcome encounters with mosquitos, but that was expected due to the location of the property and the season. We normally stay in Hawi and the location was incredibly convenient for us to explore the northeastern side of the island. Once welcomed by Jim, where he gave us an overview of the cottage and the property, we were afforded incredible privacy throughout our stay. It was just perfect, exactly what we needed :)

What a fabulous find! The cottage is one large, very well stocked, room with two very comfortable beds. The sink and microwave are inside, while the fridge and hot plate are on the porch. The porch has a glassed in corner with a table and chairs where we enjoyed our meals. The views from the porch and the patio are AMAZING!! The cottage was the perfect homebase for exploring the area, and coming back to this quiet, beautiful spot was such a treat. Jim was a welcoming and helpful host. We loved it and will definitely return!

If you do not like crowds, if you do not mind driving to your attractions, if you like peacefulness, beautiful views and bird's song, this is a place for you.
Jim was extremely nice and accommodating. Because I asked about swimming, he showed great concern to make sure that I understand that the nearest swimmable beach is 35 min drive away. Ask him for the house number, and then you can use Google Maps direction and/or GPS coordinates.
I can only wish that all vacation rentals were so great, for us it was a paradise.

The hosts is nice. He communicates by phone and was there to personally walk us through the house. It was comfortable and nicely furnished, with a number of nice paintings by Kim, his partner and nice chaise lounges on a patio below with colorful landscaping. The lawn between car and house is fairly steep. The ocean view from the porch is quite nice. Not much counter space. Not a very good walking neighborhood, but far from (and 650' below!) highway (yay!) and close to Waipi'o Lookout and Honoka'a tsunami memorial. We would come again.

OK we are old geriatrics in our 80's We have been to the Hawaiian Islands many times and taken all the shows beaches resorts luaus entertainment you name it , we did it all. This time was different, What did we do for two weeks? "we counted cows" The location was absolutely beautiful. looking across a deep ravine lwatching black angus steers getting fat on the abundant grass with the Ocean as a back drop. Everything was just perfect, Our hosts Jim & Kim provided every thing we needed. Haven't slept on a full size bed for over 50 years, but we re-learned to "cuddle" The rental was close to the charming little community of Honokaa.
This is what Hawaii was like 50 years ago. Just kick back and enjoy... Thanks Jim & Jan we will be back

Loved sitting on Jim and Kims deck (and their lanai) enjoying their stunning gardens and staring at an unobstructed view of the ocean. It was the perfect way to start and end each day. In 5 days we easily explored from Mauna Kea beach to the Botanical gardens, wandered Hawi, hiked Pololu, meandered through Honokaa. Be sure to hit the historical ctr by Spencer Beach to watch the film about how Kamehameha united Hawaii and feel the history of the temple there. In Honokaa, wander the Heritage ctr. We missed the turn to the Botanical Gardens and stumbled upon Hilos farmers market, bought fruit and treats, then headed back to spend 2 stunning hours at the Gardens. If you want a quiet home base where all you hear are frogs, birds, roosters and an occasional cow to explore the north end, Jim and Kims is your place. Very comfortable with grill and well stocked kitchen.

This property is so quiet and peaceful that we spent a bit time just relaxing and enjoying the expansive view. The neigborhood is without street lights, so the stargazing could not be better! We don't usually cook much beyond breakfast and snacks, but there is everything you would want, if you need a full kitchen. The space is pretty small and not really suitable for more than two people. There are stairs to access the cottage, so you do need to be relatively mobile. The hosts are friendly and helpful but not intrusive. This property is beautifully landscaped and the cottage was very clean. We enjoyed our stay and will book this cottage again when we visit Honokaa.

Kim and Jim were absolutely terrific hosts! We couldn’t have asked for a better stay. The location was beautiful, with a wonderful view and plenty of parking.
The sounds of animals and the ocean at night are so peaceful and quaint.
The space came with everything we needed such coffee and drinks, toiletries and travel guides. They really think of everything!
