The cabin is a very satisfying living space. High ceiling with loft bedroom high end Serta queen sized bed. A fully functional kitchen is also included. It's a very romantic and cozy space especially for couples. You get acces anywhere in the 2 acre property.
We are very conveniently located between Hilo , volcano and the red road and lava flows. We are a 20minute drive to the volcano national park where the lava is currently overflowing and erupting. Come see it before is stops! It's truly an incredible sight. A must see!! On a side note Keaau is a very safe place to be for safe air.
Great location for all that east Hawaii has to offer and your host Jonas will make sure you have all the information and toys you need to explore eg. snorkel gear boogie boards!
Currently the county of Hawaii is setting up safe viewing areas of the volcano and lava flows. Hookele cabin is located 15 miles from the volcano and is upwind so air quality is fresh and clean. Come see a once in a lifetime experience of a close look at an active volcano.

This is a nice, economical, decent place to stay. Centrally located between Hilo and Pahoa. (Keauu) Captain Jonas is a wonderful host with just the right amount of Aloha for his guests. Recommended - especially during drier months in this part of the Big Island.

Much need time away from the busyness of LA.
We have family here on Big Island and this spot was right up the street! We’ll definitely be back many more times!
Thanks Jonas Aloha for now :)

My wife and I recently stayed here from 9/23-9/27 as part of a big anniversary trip. First time out of the lower 48 since COVID and we wanted to stay on both sides of the island (it is a big island) and we wanted a real much needed getaway - and we got exactly what we were hoping for. It's a beautiful little cabin on a gated property a little off 130 that makes you feel like you're basically alone in a little slice of paradise. The owner/host next to there Jonas is the nicest guy ever and helped us feel at home. He has lots of solar stuff set up, cool lights around the property, very self sustaining including the water (he provides big jugs of water for drinking, tap is safe to cook with and brush teeth etc). There's hot water, but take quick showers. During our stay he gave us a really awesome locals driving tour of a lot of the aftermath of the 2018 lava flows as well as some interesting history and some other cool spots we surely wouldn't have seen on our own. We definitely recommend asking him about it.
The cabin was maybe a half hour from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park which is worthy of at least a few days if you like to hike. Hilo is very close, and we easily explored the NE coast as far as Laupahoehoe Point (don't miss the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden). It is centrally located to really get to see a really cool area in the state that we thought was so exciting and beautiful.
The cabin is small just like the pictures show but great for couples for sure. The loft upstairs with the bed is where the AC is located and we were very happy with how comfortable it kept us upstairs and down too, and we like it cool. The ladder up to the loft is pretty easy, we went up and down once and were fine. Internet was top notch, which we tried not to use too much (I mean you're in Hawaii) but when we were being lazy and eating box Mac n Cheese a few times after a big day of hiking was nice. Speaking of kitchen, it's basic but we definitely got by fine. There's a microwave, a dual burner, a convection oven, and a coffee maker. There was something else under the microwave that I forgot what it was kinda looked like an air fryer type thing but not sure so don't hold me to that. Nice fridge and freezer.
In short, we loved it, and will hopefully be back again before too long. I say this in a positive way, as much as we loved it this place also might not be for everyone. But if it's for you, you're going to love it. Thank you so much Jonas!!

We loved staying here during our weekend trip. The setting was idyllic and the cabin was so unique. Four of us stayed very comfortably here and were able to cook our own breakfast and dinner each night. It was close to most of the items on our itinerary. The owners were very friendly and nice and made sure we had everything we needed on clueing extra towels, a cooler, soaps.
