The place was a little more rustic than we anticipated. The water is not drinkable, but we were supplied with plenty of bottled water from the host.
The propane tank to heat the water for the shower was empty by the final morning, so we needed to have cold showers. But otherwise the place was great.
Try to arrive during daylight, it’s a hidden gem :)

An adventurous, beautiful, fun place to stay. Thank you Merlyn! The outdoor shower and kitchen were definitely a cool experience. The property could not be more lush and beautiful.

My husband and I ended our visit to the Big Island by staying at this lovely property in Hilo for a few nights. We were aware that this side of the island gets a considerable amount of rain, especially this time of the year. We talked about possibly returning next year when the weather and numerous fruit trees are producing.

Great place to stay in! Hosts very attentive to your needs, fresh fruits you can pick yourself every day.
BBQ works well, and has a side too for making breakfast. Only downside is the neighbouring dogs that bark. Other then that, great place!

We had a lovely stay at this beautiful cottage. The amenities were just what we needed in Hilo and the location was a great base to Mauna Kea and Volcano national park. The one thing to be aware is that this property relies on off grid energy sources. We did not have any issues but only found out on arrival that a hair dryer would drain the batteries. Cooking/boiling water is through the propane bbq. The internet worked perfectly fine! Even with the rain there were enough covered spaces to shelter and just relax.

This rental was to celebrate 40 year anniversary. We’ve been to Bid Island 6x. We will come back to this little gem located in southern outskirts of Hilo. You need to rent a car any time you go to Big Island. This property is semi-private. There are residents around you, but plenty of trees and foliage so you don’t see them.. We loved the privacy/security of bedroom/powder room in the actual cottage. The queen bed was really comfortable. Loved the completely roofed outdoor spaces, shower, kitchen, and sitting areas You will hear chickens and see tropical birds. Cute green lizards hang around outside areas. Bring slippers because no shoes or sandals allowed in cottage. There are a few dvd’s, but bring some of your favorites; wi-fi is great. The Hawaiian hospitality from hosts. 4 stars.
