Maunaloa Shores 612 is a retreat that feels like home. This rental has recently been redone in tropical decor, accented by original artwork and there are comfortable armchairs both inside and out on the private lanai. Its central location makes walks to the beach to swim and relax just minutes away, or you can roam the farmer's market, shops, and many restaurants conveniently located nearby. There is also a shared, freshwater pool on-site if you'd rather stay close to home.
What's nearby:
Take a short walk to Carlsmith Park next door for a dip in the ocean where the lagoons create calm swimming areas and provide protection from the surf. The four-mile stretch of different swimming coves in this area (called Keaukaha) is a wonderful location to introduce children and newcomers to the water. Keep an eye out for our local Hawaiian monk seal 'mama' and her children who sometimes pop up on shore in this neighborhood, but don't disturb them as they are very endangered.
Things to know:
Free WiFi
Full kitchen (no dishwasher)
No air conditioning
Shared coin-op laundry facilities on each floor
Elevator in the building
This property is managed by Vacasa Hawaii.

The property was nice but we lost our keys during the Merrie Monarch festival. The door code was incorrect so we couldn't get in.
The property manager did not have a spare key.
Vacasa chat never replied.
We were on hold for 45 minutes waiting for an agent to answer the phone.
I actually found my keys in a hotel craft fair before I ever heard back from a Vacasa.

This unit was clean and fresh smelling. The kitchen was great, the lanai was awesome, the beds were very comfortable. But checking in was quite the obstacle. First, you have to go by the mailboxes and find a wooden cabinet with about 50 lockboxes. We were instructed to find the lockbox with a I on it. There is no uniform system, some aren’t marked, some have letters on the back, some have numbers on the sides. I had to hold 30 lockboxes and look for a letter. After inspecting about 30, I found ours with the unit number. It is a dim lit area, and had a small light in the cabinet, but I still recommend bringing a flashlight, especially when dark outside. In the lockbox there were three keys. None were marked as to what they went to. Every time you had to use the elevator you had to try 2 or 3 times. Did anyone think of putting labels on them? The door to our unit had a 10 key lockbox and had to be 25 years old. We stay at Vrbo all the time, so we are experienced with lockboxes. You have to hit each key directly on center, and it would time out in about 4 seconds. We had to call and get 2 different codes. After at least 30 tries, we made it in. Once we got in, it was a very nice place. Later that day we tried to get in and had the same problem. Communication was good, we got a fast response, buts it’s a faulty system. We wanted to go out later for a nice dinner, but we didn’t want to get locked out again. Such a nice place if you could just get in.

Property was nice. Frying pan had baked on black frying residue and was warped high in the middle.
Wanted to watch TV, couldn't get it to work. Got to work once during the one day out of seven day stay, but never again. Overall a nice condo.

Located right next to Carlsmith Beach Park, with easy access from the pool to the beach. Safe, clean and friendly condo building. The resident manager is super friendly and helpful.

Property has all necessities. The pool looked stained at the bottom/not exactly inviting, and the apartment was clean but needed upkeep/mx items fixed. Otherwise, it was a solid place and a great price.

Nice and clean 2 bedroom property in a great location in Hilo. Next to a beach that you can walk to and close to 2 other beaches. Perfect for a family of 4 that wants to explore all the sites on the Hilo side. We enjoyed our stay here and would recommend this condo if you plan to visit Hilo.

Quiet. Right beside Carlsmith beach and turtles! Clean. Beds could use new mattresses. No air conditioning but the fans worked well for the week we were there

Beds were extremely uncomfortable. They taco’ed rolling us both into the middle. Horrible pillows. It was very hot but the fans were very loud but didn’t move the air at all.
Annoyingly they only provide one key to get into the elevator, in/out pool and gate to beach. What if you are at the pool and one family member wants to go to the room, then everyone else would be stuck inside the gated pool as you need a key to exit that area as well as to get back up the elevator.
Location was gorgeous though.

Not having access to the room when we arrived after a full day of travel was the worst. We could not find a motel with any vacancy, so we slept in the rental car the first night. We were able to gain access to the room around 9am the next day. We saw a couple roaches. We had to wash any dishes before we used them every time, because there was a cockroach in the utensil draw when we first opened it. Maunaloa shores is right next to the airport so it was very loud most of the time if the windows were open. No Air conditioning so we had to keep the windows open. The room was OK / clean. No TV in the bedrooms. and the radio did not work. The antenna was broken off.
