Enter the home onto the grand lanai (porch) which is fully screened in and offers a view of the manicured acre with Hilo Bay views in the distance. Through the front doors you'll be greeted by our huge living room. The original hardwood floors and plantation era architectural details are unique to Hilo homes from the 1920s and 1930s. This huge living area has a game table with board games available, a large flat-screen TV and DVD player, high-speed WiFi internet and luxurious lounging area big enough for your whole family. NOTE: there are no TV channels so bring your streaming login info!
There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms in the home that are artfully decorated with historic representations of 'old Hawaii'. The kitchen at the back of the house is bright and full of windows to take in your Hawaiian landscape. The kitchen is fully stocked with anything you may need to cook a big meal or heat up your restaurant leftovers. Seating for 6 at the kitchen table with additional seating on the lanai or at the living room game table.
My Hilo Home is planted with lots of tropical fruiting trees and plants. Enjoy juicy pineapples from our pineapple patch in summer months, tangy lychee from our ancient lychee tree in spring and citrus in the winter. There is also a breadfruit tree for those adventurous travelers who want to try a unique starch (please follow in-house instructions on preparing the difficult fruit!).
Four comfortable bedrooms line one side of the private home. Three of the bedrooms have queen size beds and the fourth has two twin beds (max occupancy is 8 guests). Each of the two bathrooms has a marble shower and one bathroom has a small bathtub. A pack-n-play is available for our guests with babies. The kitchen has an electric cook-top, electric oven, dishwasher, refrigerator and washer/dryer for laundry. All kitchen dishes and small appliances are available for your use. The house is immaculately cleaned between guests (at check-out) and mid-stay cleaning is an optional add-on.
This is a Hawaii County licensed short term rental.

It was a lovely house to spend nearly 2 weeks in. We thoroughly enjoyed staying here. We picked lots of fruit from the property, lounged on the lanai, and had fun watching the planes and geckos eating insects. The large yard was very nice to have young children use up some energy.
The proximity to the downtown and beaches, while still being 'out of town,' was excellent.

The house was charming place to stay with lots of space, beautiful deck with views and a birdwatcher's delight. It was out of the way, but close to town and right up the road were waterfalls. Very peaceful and clean.

Reviewer Comments:
We enjoyed staying in this plantation home. The location in Hilo was close to everything. It was clean, and well stocked with kitchen supplies. The beds were comfortable. It was clean, except for a huge ant problem in the second bath that made it almost unusable. We did understand that bugs are part of that environment. We really enjoyed the huge lanai and spent a lot of time there. The property was large and enjoyable to walk around. The cleaning people showed up early, well before our check out time and asked them to return later. They assumed that they could hang out on the lanai til then, however the screen door was locked. They then sat on the front steps for awhile. We assume this was a miscommunication but still inappropriate.

The four of us LOVED the Hilo home. I went into the backyard & picked an orange 🍊 off the tree & two ripe lemons from underneath the tree. The beds were clean & comfortable. No A/C, No problem really! The climate in Hilo is very nice & perfect for open windows. The house is about 3 minutes from Downtown Hilo. Don’t stay in a hotel. Stay at the Hilo House.

We just wrapped up our wedding and wanted a few quiet days with family to unwind from all the festivities. This house was unique, large enough for our family of 5 adults & 2 kids, great views and a bit quirky/historical in All the best ways.
My only critique is that while there are lots of eating tables in different areas, there isn’t one big enough for everyone to sit at if you have a group bigger than 4.

I can’t say enough about the amazing plantation house! Our daughter and her family joined us for part of our stay. We spent evenings in the large screened in porch, enjoying the skies and all the fun night sounds. Even the frogs😉 loved the little black and white cat that visited us daily! The location was ideal for us as well. Able to drive to the volcano park easily. And along to coast to Waimea
We would definitely recommend My Hilo House!

We loved staying at this lovely vacation home. It was clean, comfortable and cozy! So much Hilo charm. Huge space, especially loved the wrap around screened-in porch. We hope to return in the future.

A very spacious plantation house with character and charm. Well-equipped kitchen with lots of prep space. Little bit of noise from traffic on the road, but otherwise lovely and quiet. Pleasant outdoor lanai to enjoy the lush gardens.
Minor suggestions: the grill could use a clean and some paintwork needs to be done in the kitchen and bathrooms.
Overall, a great place to stay on the outskirts of Hilo with a view of the harbor.

My wife, two sons, & their wives spent a wonderful 8 nights over Thanksgiving at My Hilo Home. The property was better than described, within walking distance of downtown Hilo. The 1926-built home has a gigantic front lawn and a screened-in gigantic patio with a view of Hilo Bay. Kitchen has all the pots, pans, etc you will need for any meals you decide to cook while you are staying....also a gas grill in a covered gazebo just off of the kitchen. Property was clean, well-maintained, & a fun place to stay. Had a question on keys that was answered quickly by the owner. I highly recommend this place for anyone spending some time in Hilo. As far as dining....read and follow Yelp reviews.

My Hilo Home was everything and more than we expected. It truly was our home away from home.Minutes from downtown Hilo but seemed miles away -peaceful,quiet and the grounds are lovely. We picked oranges and passionfruit from the yard.Fabulous place!
