This VRBO is actually a dated hotel and the pool was out of order but that was not a huge problem and was somewhat reflected in the price.
On our last night however, my adult daughter and I had the misfortune of contracting the norovirus, a nasty bug that will make you VIOLENTLY ill for 6-8 hrs. I was "fortunate" that my symptoms began around 12am and by 9am the worst of my GI symptoms had subsided, but my daughter was less fortunate with her symptoms only starting around 6am, only 6hrs before checkout and 9 hours before her flight home. Thinking that the checkout was at 11am I felt it was only fair to warn the front desk that she may not be able to safely leave her bathroom by then, and to let them know that we were doing our best to leave on time.
When I explained our situation to the person at the front desk and told her we would do our best to be out by 11, all she said in response was "checkout is at 12". I replied that was great, that an extra hour would be helpful and that we would do our best to be out by then, she simply repeated "checkout is at 12". No compassion, no attempt to find an alternate solution, essentially telling me it was MY problem and that I needed to be out by 12. I secretly wished my daughter would have thrown up on the carpet in the front lobby so I could have looked at her in the eye, shrugged my shoulders and just said "Checkout was at 12..."
