Drawing constant crowds of onlookers to the shoreline, the far end of Ala Moana Beach Park includes some of the most famous breaks on Oahu’s South Shore, namely Ala Moana Bowls and “Kewalos” (i.e., Kewalo Basin), which are coveted by locals and seasoned surfers for their high-performance waves.
While neighboring Waikiki is a popular spot for beginner surfers enjoying lessons at many of the celebrated surf schools in the area, Ala Moana’s more complex breaks are recommended for more experienced surfers.

The room is a typical hotel room. It was clean, had a partial ocean view and the bed was comfortable. Our concerns relate to management and costs.
Despite our request, the property manager didn't provide check in instructions until after our plane arrived in Hawaii and even those instructions had the wrong dates. There was no reason for this delay.
A few days into our stay we received an alert from our credit card company that the host, Pacific Hale had posted a $41.75 charge to our credit card. We sent emails and a voice mail to Pacific Hale asking for an explanation without a response. After referring the issue to VRBO, Pacific Hale finally responded and notified us that this was a “credit card processing fee” and they attempted to revise the original VRBO invoice. After a couple more emails Pacific Hale agreed to drop the charge.
We knew we had to pay resort and registration fees to the Ala Moana hotel in addition to the posted VRBO room rate. During our stay we determined that the hotel’s posted rates include these fees. When comparing the host’s rate for similar rooms, to include all taxes and fees to the hotel’s rates with tax, we determined that it cost about $25 more a night to use this host than to book with the hotel directly. Unlike the host, the hotel provides daily maid service and other amenities. (Note the hotel applies the Hawaii/Honolulu 17.96% accommodation tax to the resort and registration fees).
