The Kamaka Cottage in Volcano is surrounded by three acres of ohia forest and located 2.5 miles from the entrance of Hawai'i Volcanos National Park . The newly renovated cottage is nestled inside of the quaint rainforest town of Volcano and offers a retro-modern design and open floor plan.

A cozy studio cottage with an open floor plan kitchen/dining/living room is your home base for exploring the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Kalapana Coast of the Big Island.

The Kamaka Cottage accommodates up to two persons with a queen size bed. The kitchenette is equipped with mini fridge, toaster oven, microwave, griddle, two burner hot plate, pots and pans, keurig / drip coffee maker, and fresh water dispenser. Wireless internet is complimentary. Parking is provided just outside your front door.

Convenient and free parking is available next to the cottage once you enter the private gate. Self check-in or host can meet you if requested.
Easy access drive way through the open gate takes you directly to the main front door. You will drive straight through to see the cottage.

There are hosts that live on-site that can assist you during your stay with questions or concerns.

Kamaka Cottage is located in the quaint rainforest town of Volcano Village adjacent to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The town offers a farmers market and a wonderful store where you can shop, have a bite to eat and warm up with coffee or hot chocolate on the porch while watching the light rain.

We are 35 minutes from the larger town of Hilo for grocery stores and more shopping options. In addition we are 30 minutes from Papakōlea Beach one of only 4 green sand beaches in the world and home to many sea turtles.

The cottage is located behind our main house that. There will be a host on site during your stay for any issues that need immediate attention and to assist with check in / check out if needed.

During winter months, this cottage, at about 3720-foot/1134-meter elevation, gets cool, sometimes below 45ºF/7.2ºC, so, guests can enjoy the infrared heater. In winter months, visitors to our island need to bring warm jackets, as well as bathing suits.

Residents of Volcano Village actively participate in keeping exterior lighting low so the only street lights in the village are at the highway, where Wright Road and Haunani Road begin and go up through the village. Consequently, the roads are dark at night.

The State of Hawai'i has two taxes which affect visitors to the islands: Transient Accommodations Tax and General Excise Tax. The taxes collected by the host from guests for lodgings stays total 14.96%, during 2020....
