Polo Beach

Polo Beach is a Wailea beach with golden sand, resort views, public parking, restrooms, showers, picnic areas and no lifeguard.

Polo Beach, Maui

Polo Beach is one of the beaches in the Wailea resort area, a large resort complex that encompasses two miles of shoreline. This beach is at the quieter south end of Wailea and is rarely crowded. Backed by low sand dunes, Polo Beach is a nice picnicking beach with BBQ grills, tables and a small park with a grassy area.

When the ocean is calm, the snorkeling conditions can be good around the northern end of the beach. The ocean bottom drops off gently at Polo Beach, and when there is a small shorebreak, the conditions for bodyboarding can be good as well. Keep an eye out for rocks hidden on the nearshore ocean bottom, especially at the southern end of the beach.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Polo Beach quieter than some other Wailea beaches?

Polo Beach sits at the south end of Wailea's resort area, so it often has a more tucked-away feel than central Wailea Beach.

What is the sand like at Polo Beach?

The beach has golden sand with lava rock near parts of the shoreline, so the easiest walking and ocean entry areas can shift with sand and surf.

Can you walk from Polo Beach to other Wailea beaches?

Yes. The Wailea coastal path connects nearby resort areas and beaches, making Polo Beach part of a scenic south Maui shoreline walk.

Why do conditions change during the day?

South Maui mornings are often calmer, while afternoon wind can add chop and make the water less inviting for swimming or snorkeling.

What makes Polo Beach a popular photo spot?

The beach has open sand, palms, resort edges, lava-rock details and clear views of the Wailea shoreline, especially in late-day light.
