The Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort
The Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort is one of Maui's most recognizable golf courses, set high above the ocean on the slopes of West Maui. The course is known for broad fairways, dramatic elevation changes, trade winds and sweeping views toward Molokai, Lanai and the Pacific. It is part of the larger Kapalua area, where resort communities, beaches and mountain scenery come together on Maui's northwest shore.
Designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, the course uses the natural shape of the land rather than a flat, manicured layout. Golfers move across sloping terrain, downhill holes, uphill approaches and wide landing areas that still require careful club choice when the wind is up. The final stretch is especially memorable, with the famous downhill 18th hole offering one of the best-known finishes in Hawaii golf.
The Plantation Course is also known as the longtime home of the PGA Tour's season-opening event at Kapalua. Even for visitors who are not playing, the setting has a strong sense of place, with ocean views, green ridges and the quiet northwestern side of Maui surrounding the course.
